A major aspect of the Green Party’s manifesto for the County Council elections is challenging current plans for over 20,000 new homes to be built in the Greater Norwich area over the next 20 years. The Greens are concerned that this level of growth will alter the character of Norwich and involve development in significant parts of the countryside.
The Green Party is calling for more affordable, energy efficient housing to be built on brown field sites and for more to be done to bring empty buildings in the city back into use. Where new communities are built, Greens are urging that strong public transport links and important local services like medical centres are included from the outset.
Green Party Councillors have responded to the public consultation on the housing growth plans to make the above points. To respond yourself, visit www.gndp.org.uk/reg25 . To ask for a consultation form please phone (01603) 638305 or write to Greater Norwich Development Partnership, PO Box 3466, Norwich, NR7 7NX. The deadline for responses is Friday 12th June.
