Why I’m backing Adrian

Peter Cranie - North West | 18 July 2008

Peter Cranie

“What the Green Party needs is inspirational leadership. I can't think of anything more inspiring than someone who at 16 made a decision to make a difference in his home town, and who ten years later is the Leader of the Opposition on Norwich City Council.

“Adrian Ramsay has the spirit, the determination and the track record to inspire Green electoral success around the country. But more important than that, Adrian is at the forefront of a new generation of voters, whose political identity in the years will be shaped by the impact of climate change, right here and right now on British society.

“We don't need politicians who march to the tune of either the old political left or right. We need people in politics who are Green, who have always been Green and who can inspire others to choose our new and better political values, and attract members and supporters who are disillusioned with the other political parties. In Norwich Adrian has built up a large and effective local party, and has attracted respected former councillors and members from both Labour and the Lib Dems.

“Adrian is someone who has already made a difference locally. He has inspired a broad cross-section of Norwich residents to put their trust in the Green Party and our distinctive policies on the full range of issues. I challenge anyone in our party not to admire the accomplishments that he and his Norwich colleagues have made. If elected as Deputy Leader, Adrian can help deliver a dose of that success to emerging local parties around the country.

“In Green politics, we sometimes talk too much and deliver too little. The issue of climate change is urgent and what we need now is action. We need a leadership team that will help create an organised and effective national party and help deliver more Green Councillors to implement more Green policies across the country. We need a leadership team with a track record of delivery. For that reason I'm going to be campaigning to elect Adrian as our first ever Deputy Leader.”
