On Friday morning Adrian Ramsay, Green Party MP Candidate for Norwich South, will appear live on a nationally broadcast BBC speed-dating show alongside four other parliamentary candidates. There will be candidates from Labour, the Conservatives, Liberal Democrats and UKIP, while Ramsay will represent the Green Party nationally.
Contestants will "speed-date" twelve 18-25-year-olds not intending to vote at the general election. For three minutes at a time the young people will move around and reporter Richard Westcott will drop in on their conversations to interview them. The aim of the event is to see whether the new voters can be persuaded to vote, and see whether they can relate to the new politicians standing for election.
Adrian Ramsay said: “It's really important that politicians engage young people. When I speak to young people on the doorstep in Norwich, it is clear that they are looking for a fresh approach to politics and that it what the Green Party offers. If elected, I will be challenging the increasing power of private companies in education and the NHS, and proposing a million new lasting jobs with the apprenticeships and graduate opportunities that would come with this.”
It will been shown live on BBC Breakfast between 6am and 9.15am in segments. It will also be shown on the News Channel, 5 Live, Newsbeat and the BBC News Website.
