With a table, a chair, and an eye on the weather, Adrian Ramsay, the Green Party General Election candidate for Norwich South is setting out on a series of open-air surgeries, determined to meet as many voters as possible before polling day.
The Norwich Greens have already opened the innovative Green Shop in Dove Street where local people are welcome to call in to find out about the party, and the Norwich South campaign is already using the latest communication methods like Facebook and Twitter as ways to keep in touch with the electorate. But Adrian firmly believes there’s no substitute for face-to-face meetings in order to hear first hand from the people he hopes to represent in Parliament what their priorities for action may be, both nationally and in their own city.
So Adrian is setting up his table in a series of public places across the constituency in the coming weeks, to offer anybody passing by the chance to speak to him without an appointment. With so many people already voting Green in local elections across Norwich, Adrian is confident of a friendly welcome. But he’s also prepared to set out his stall of policies for those wanting to find out why electing a Green MP for Norwich South is the logical next step.
The stall will also act as a gathering point for teams of supporters handing out leaflets and canvassing door to door in the same area.
Adrian said:
"I am working hard to meet as many residents as I can before the election, to listen to their views and concerns. I am listening to residents on the doorstep, in the Green Party shop and now on my listening tour.
"More and more residents are excited about the prospect of Norwich making a real impact nationally by electing a Green MP. One more Labour, Conservative or LibDem MP from Norwich will hardly be noticed, but electing a Green MP sends a clear message that people want positive change and a fresh, local voice in Parliament.
"I'll be talking to residents about my key campaign issues - protecting the NHS and education from cuts and privatisation, creating lasting new jobs locally and saving local services, like Post Offices and Sure Start centres, which are under threat."
First stop on the Listening Tour will be the Earlham House shopping centre on Earlham Road at 11:00 on Friday (Mar 12th). The full tour itinerary is as follows:
11:00 -12:30, Earlham House shopping centre, Earlham Road.
