The Green Party's General Election candidate for Norwich South, Adrian Ramsay will be in Brighton tomorrow (Thursday) for the launch of the party’s national election campaign.
Norwich South is one of the Green Party’s target constituencies, along with Brighton Pavilion and Lewisham Deptford. The party is fielding its highest number of General Election candidates in over 300 other constituencies, including every Norfolk seat.
On Thursday the costed Green Party manifesto will be focusing on fairness and combating inequality:
The creation of an extra million jobs and training places to green Britain's housing, transport and infrastructure.
A programme of free locally accessible services, including an end to dental and prescription charges, and the introduction of free social care for the elderly and those with serious disabilities.
A High Pay Commission to ensure bankers and other business people are not rewarded for failure, and the promotion of community banks, credit unions and mutuals so banking supports people’s needs.
A basic non-means tested £170 a week pension.
Ending the blight of the 300,000 long-term empty homes. The Greens will fight to bring these back into use, cutting housing waiting lists by renovating Britain’s 37,000 empty council homes and building new affordable homes to high environmental standards.
Also launched is the Green Party’s new General Election website at http://www.onlygreen.org.uk/ with a unique party election broadcast you can personalise and send to a friend.
A measure of the way in which Green Party policies are finding favour with the public is to be found at http://voteforpolicies.org.uk/. This independent website offers users a blind choice between policies on different subjects. At the end of the survey it advises which party to vote for on the basis of the choices made. So far, Green Party policies have proved more popular than those of other parties.
Adrian Ramsay, Green Party MP Candidate for Norwich South, commented:
“I’m delighted to be launching our national manifesto for a fairer society. Only the Green Party will protect the NHS from privatisation, increase the basic state pension to £170 per week and create thousands of lasting jobs in Norfolk. We want to localise our economy and promote local manufacturing and food production. We will also break up the big banks and stop rewarding risky behaviour by bankers. We need Green policies at the heart of Westminster, and we in Norwich have a great opportunity to make that happen at the General Election.”
