Miss Norwich Goes Green

21 April 2010

Some unusual sources of support have been turning up for Adrian Ramsay, the Green Party candidate in Norwich South.

Salema Junior-Radford, the current Miss Norwich, has told the Green Party that she wants to vote for Adrian Ramsay at the General Election.

Salema, who is 20 years old, is a Norwich South resident, but currently goes to Newcastle University where she studies medicine. Today (Wed April 21st) she called in at the Green Shop on Dove Street for a personal meeting with Adrian and to find out more about Green Party policies.

Salema is concerned about the effect humans are having on the environment. She also believes in social justice and would like to see a fairer, more equal society. As a medical student Salema shares the Green Party’s concerns about the increasing privatisation of the NHS and about the PFI schemes which are costing the tax-payer money which she believes should be spent on care. As a student she shares the Green Party's view that top-up fees should be scrapped.

Marie Kollenrott, a former assistant to Jurgen Trittin, one of the leaders of the Green Party in Germany (where the Green faction has 68 seats in the German Parliament - the Bundestag), also visited the shop today. She has arrived with a letter to Adrian and his team from Mr Trittin wishing him a successful campaign. Marie heard via Facebook that the Greens are on the verge of a Westminster breakthrough and that Norwich is one of the most likely places for this to happen.

Marie, who is 25 years old, is studying for an MA in Politics and Law at Georg-August Universität in Göttingen. She will be briefing Adrian on the impact that German Greens have had in Parliament.
