The Green Party General Election candidate for Norwich South, Adrian Ramsay, will become the first local candidate to have talks at a city mosque tomorrow (Tues).
Leaders at the Chapelfield mosque in Norwich have invited Adrian Ramsay to a round table discussion to hear a Muslim perspective on election issues. Among the subjects they want to raise are policing, education, the financial crisis, foreign policy and local issues.
The director of the mosque, Mr Hajj Uthman Ibrahim-Morrison, said:
“We always welcome the opportunity to spend time exploring relevant issues with politicians who recognise the value of making themselves accessible to potential voters. We look forward to meeting Adrian in person and getting a direct feel for his approach to people and hearing his responses to issues of concern to the local community.
“Of course, we're also keen to see whether the Green Party really can produce a new kind of politics and bring an element of genuine sincerity to the political scene. TV debates and well crafted manifestoes are all very well, but they are no substitute for meaningful face-to-face communication and discussion”.
Adrian Ramsay said:
“It’s important to have regular discussions with all groups in the community. I’m very pleased to be offered the opportunity to get an insight into the specific election priorities of the Muslim community.”
The meeting at the Ihsan Mosque, Chapelfield East, is at 15:30 tomorrow, April 20th. There will be an opportunity for pictures before it begins.
