Adrian appears in party election broadcast

16 May 2009

Norwich born Adrian Ramsay will be appearing on national television on Monday 18 May, presenting a national Party Election Broadcast. A Norwich City Councillor, Adrian Ramsay is the national Deputy Leader of the Green Party. At 27, he is one of the youngest senior politicians in the country.

This is the first time Adrian Ramsay has been the main figure in such a broadcast and it his first broadcast as Deputy Leader of the Greens. He will appear on ITV at 10.30pm and BBC1 at 10:35pm on Monday.

In the broadcast, Adrian Ramsay will urge residents to vote Green in the County Council elections. The Greens are hopeful of gaining several County Council seats in Norfolk and elsewhere in the country on 4th June.

Despite his youthfulness, Adrian Ramsay is a highly qualified and seasoned political figure. He is a graduate of the University of East Anglia (UEA), having gained a first class honours degree in Politics and Sociology in 2002. He became a Norwich City Councillor in 2003 at the age of 21, with 50% of the vote and was re-elected in 2007 with 62% in the city's Nelson ward. He now leads a group of 13 Green Councillors at City Hall, where the Greens are the main opposition and the largest group of Green Party Councillors in the country.

Adrian will be challenging Charles Clarke for his Norwich South seat at the next General Election, and has a great chance of success - the Greens finished three thousand votes ahead of Labour in Norwich South in the 2008 local elections.

Adrian Ramsay said: "It's a great honour to be asked to present the election broadcast and it reflects the progress the Green Party has made in Norwich. The broadcast illustrates the positive policies that Green Councillors are putting forward across the country - and the significant impact we can have if more Greens are elected on 4th June.

"In Norfolk and other counties, an increased number of Green councillors would mean greater pressure on councils to deliver cheap, reliable public transport, more affordable housing and home insulation schemes - and the carbon reduction, fuel bill reduction and job creation that comes with them."
