Tony Juniper has stepped down from his role as Director of Friends of the Earth to focus on campaigning for the Green Party.
While at FoE Tony led many successful initiatives, including the Big Ask campaign, which resulted in the world's first national law on reducing carbon emissions – the 2008 Climate Change Act. The Green Party recently selected him to stand as General Election Candidate for Cambridge where he lives.
Tony Juniper said: "Campaign groups like Friends of the Earth play a vital role in pressing for change, but we really need elected Green Party politicians at all levels of government to bring about genuine action. I’ll be working closely with Adrian Ramsay, Caroline Lucas and others in the Green Party to kick-start the real political progress that our country needs – and ensure a Green breakthrough into Westminster at the next General Election.”
