Helping children and families
Working with local residents, Green Councillors successfully
campaigned to stop the County Council from closing the Sure Start
nursery on Wolfe Road in Thorpe Hamlet. Sure Start centres provide
vital support for parents and their young children. Greens are working
to protect them from further cuts.
Green Councillors helped to save Parkside School for children with
special educational needs. We supported a campaign by local parents
against County Council plans to reduce the number of places available
in Norwich for children with special educational needs.
Green Councillors have played a key role in working groups to
tackle child poverty in the County. Our key recommendations were
accepted, including the provision of school meals in the summer break
and financial help to parents starting back at work. The City Council
agreed a Green Party proposal to endorse the aims of the Child Poverty
Action Group Manifesto and to put together an inclusive plan for
tackling child poverty in the city.
Green Councillors campaigned to save the Inspire Discovery Centre
from closure, with Councillor Adrian Holmes joining the new centre
working party.
Green City Councillors stopped Labour proposals at City Hall for cutting maintenance budgets for play spaces.
