Green Councillors played a leading role in the successful
community campaign to save the Post Offices at Vauxhall Street and New
Costessey. The Government had proposed the closure of these vital local
services, but agreed to keep them open after a successful campaign by
Green Councillors and local residents.
Green Councillors
secured City Council support for the campaign to protect Norfolk’s fire
service from Government plans to merge Norfolk’s fire control service
with those of five other counties.
Green Councillors worked
with local residents to save the Sure Start nursery on Wolfe Road when
the Conservatives at County Hall wanted to close it down.
Green Councillors supported the new committee at Belvedere Community Centre to get the centre up and running again.
After
years of lobbying from Green Councillors, the Labour administration at
City Hall agreed to require an affordable housing quota of 40% for all
new developments of more than 24 houses.
Green Councillors
led the successful campaign to keep Council housing under public
ownership when the Government wanted it to be privatised.
