Safer and cleaner streets
Green Councillors have been at the forefront of the successful
campaign for 20mph speed limits on all residential streets. The Norwich
Highways Agency Committee approved a proposal from Green Party
Councillors for a 20mph speed limit to be introduced across residential
roads in the city.
Green Councillors have worked to improve road safety for
pedestrians, such as saving the zebra crossing over Heigham Road, by
Earlham Road; successfully pressing for widened pavements and bollards
to protect pedestrians using Little Bethel Street; traffic calming
measures on Mousehold Street and St James Close; and crossing
improvements at Thorpe Road and Harvey Lane.
Green Councillors have helped to keep Norwich streets clean, such
as stopping Labour proposals to reduce funding for litter clean-ups,
and helping with neighbourhood graffitti clean-ups.
Green Councillors have worked with residents to help tackle local
community safety issues by raising them at the Safer Neighbourhood
Action Panel meetings as community policing priorities. We have also
worked with residents and the Police to tackle anti-social behaviour
hotspots, such as in the Mousehold Street and King Street areas.
Green Councillors have successfully opposed mobile phone mast applications that could threaten local people's health.
