Green Councillors played a leading role in the successful
community campaign against an incinerator in Costessey. The Green Party
supported the alternative of a Mechanical Biological Treatment plant.
Green
Councillors have led calls for many improvements to recycling
facilities in the city, including the provision of recycling in flats,
plastic bottle recycling, and the original green box scheme. We are
still calling for more improvements, such as better recycling for
batteries, plastics and food waste. Norwich’s recycling rate has
increased from 6%, when the first Green Councillors were elected, to
36% today. There is till a long way to go but we have helped push the
council in the right direction.
Following lobbying by Green
Councillors, public recycling banks for glass, paper and card were
installed in various city centre locations.
