The Office of: Adrian Ramsay MP - Waveney Valley

Job title: Caseworker

Hours: 4 days per week

Salary: £30,900 FTE (so £24,720 for four days per week).

Location: Diss

This is an exciting opportunity to join Adrian Ramsay’s small constituency team working from his local office in Diss. As MP for Waveney Valley, Adrian represents residents across a large area of north Suffolk and south Norfolk. As a caseworker your role will be to work directly on matters affecting both individuals and the wider community, advocating to authorities to resolve individuals’ problems and to address community concerns.

You will bring experience of working in casework or a similar capacity, a knowledge of Waveney Valley and a passion for making a difference for both individuals and the wider community.

Key responsibilities

Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face to face. Ongoing communication may be required

Help advance the MP’s work on matters affecting the wider local community

Write responses to constituents

Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately in accordance with the MP

Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with the data protection legislation

Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases

Log all cases; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken

Critically analyse patterns of enquiries and articulate the findings in reports and communication with the MP and other staff members

Assist surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate

Attend constituency meetings as appropriate

There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally

Undertake any other tasks that the MP requires to help them fulfil their responsibilities.

 

Person specification

Experience

Previous experience of working in a case work or similar capacity 

Previous experience of using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system

Interest in supporting individuals, community groups, local organisations and similar

Previous experience of advocating for policy change or supporting community campaigns

Knowledge of Waveney Valley

Skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

Excellent time management and organisational skills, including the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines 

Friendly and efficient manner

Ability to manage own workload and prioritise well 

Ability to deal with issues in a confidential and sensitive manner 

Works effectively in a small team 

Political sensitivity and good understanding of the local context 

Confident and competent using IT, including casework management software.
