Protecting communities, restoring nature
Climate resilience and preparedness are becoming ever more urgent amid the climate emergency, yet the UK remains seriously underprepared. I have raised this repeatedly in Parliament, calling for a sixth Government mission on resilience, putting climate resilience on a statutory footing, and ensuring preparedness is fully integrated across all sectors.
The Government’s own national security assessment warns that biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse, and climate change pose serious threats to the UK’s security, prosperity, and long-term food supply, while increasing the severity of natural disasters. I am pressing for a full debate on this Joint Intelligence Assessment so Parliament can scrutinise the risks and the actions being taken, and I continue to advocate for nature-based solutions to flooding and other climate impacts as part of our preparedness strategy.
We cannot wait. Building resilience across communities, infrastructure, and ecosystems must be treated as a national priority.
